Jamie Carragher suggests Klopp needs 23-year-old in Liverpool's starting XI as soon as possible

Jamie Carragher wants Ibrahima Konate back after Liverpool lost 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool appeared to be back.

1-0 home wins over Manchester City and West Ham United in the space of a few days had raised spirits at Anfield after an unconvincing start to the campaign.

An away trip to Nottingham Forest seemed like an ideal chance for Liverpool to make it three wins in a row but they came unstuck again.

Former Reds striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal to give Forest all three points against a wasteful Liverpool side.

Liverpool had chance after chance but either wasted their big moments or couldn’t beat Dean Henderson in the Forest goal.

The Reds were also caused problems on the counter attack as Awoniyi, Jesse Lingard and Morgan Gibbs-White linked up well.

Liverpool have now remarkably lost more games in the first 11 outings of this season than they did in the whole of last term.

Liverpool’s problems clearly aren’t finished just yet even if Jurgen Klopp and others will feel that the defeat at Forest was unlucky.

Jamie Carragher took to Twitter after the final whistle to question Fabinho’s form this season whilst begging for defender Ibrahima Konate to return.

Steve Cooper has changed Forest in the last few weeks to be a lot harder to beat, tactically very good again today.

Joe Gomez was outstanding against Manchester City last week but was a little more shaky against Forest as he partnered Virgil van Dijk.

Carragher clearly believes that Konate is the answer to Liverpool’s defensive situation and potentially the ideal partner for Van Dijk.

Carragher is a big fan of Konate and praised him for a ‘brilliant’ start to life at Liverpool following a big 2021 move from RB Leipzig.

Konate is only out with a small muscle injury and is expected back in training on Monday.

This has been a frustrating season for Konate so far.

A pre-season injury limited Konate, and after a cameo against Arsenal and a start against Rangers, he picked up another blow.

The Frenchman has looked pretty outstanding whenever given a chance in the Liverpool side and with Joel Matip still out injured, Konate may well go straight back into the Liverpool starting XI after a few days of training.
