Liverpool v West Ham: Starting XI Prediction
Liverpool host West Ham United on Wednesday night as they look to build on their outstanding 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday. Here is how we think the Reds will lineup with all of the latest team news:
Goalkeeper- Alisson
Alisson Becker will keep his place in goal following his near perfect performance against City at the weekend getting himself a well-earned clean sheet and an assist for Mohamed Salah’s winner.
Defence- Milner, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson
The same back four will most likely continue after they all played a magnificent game at the weekend. Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold’s surprise appearance from the bench, I doubt he will be fit enough to start a game just yet.
The partnership of Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk will continue at the heart of defence after keeping Erling Haaland quiet at the weekend and due to the injuries of Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate. Some may think Kostas Tsimikas comes back into this one to make sure we nurse Robertson through his recent injury, but this game is too important for uneccessary tweaks.
Midfield- Fabinho, Jordan Henderson
Fabinho will continue in midfield after a solid performance at the weekend, whilst Jordan Henderson will come back in alongside the Brazilian to give Thiago some much needed rest.
Naby Keita and Arthur Melo remain out injured, whilst Curtis Jones was back in the matchday squad on Sunday.
Forwards- Elliott, Salah, Firmino, Nunez
Personally, I think Jurgen Klopp will persevere with the formation of recent weeks with a 4-2-4 sort of shape with the ball.
Harvey Elliott played the right winger role perfectly against Manchester City at the weekend, working his socks off and allowing Mohamed Salah to move more central. Who would have thought if you put a goalscorer like Mo Salah in front of the goal he will score?
Well, that’s what we have discovered in the last two games with his hat-trick against Rangers and his winner against Manchester City.
I expect Roberto Firmino to partner Salah down the middle to offer some link up play between the central defenders. With Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz out injured the left-wing spot was a toss-up between Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, Nunez edged it, but his decision making will have to be much better than it was when he came off the bench at the weekend.
