'Brilliant': Sky Sports pundit wowed by £47k-a-week Liverpool talent tonight

Liverpool gem Curtis Jones earned praise from Sky Sports pundit Glenn Murray for his efforts against Napoli on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old Reds talent came in for just his second start this season, and first in the 2022-23 Champions League.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opted for a 4-3-3, with Jones taking up his former role as left winger.

For much of his senior career under Klopp, the Anfield academy graduate has featured in midfield.

And Jones gave a good account of himself, threatening after just five minutes.

The £47,000-a-week ace had a go with a chipped finish that landed on the roof of the net from Mohamed Salah’s pass.

Then, in the 31st minute, Jones connected with a Roberto Firmino deliver and headed over.

And three minutes before half time, Jones sent Salah in behind the defence with only Alex Meret to beat.

Salah forced a save out of the Napoli goalkeeper, though the flag went up for offside.

Nonetheless, Murray liked what he saw from Jones.

“It’s a brilliant bit of play from Curtis Jones,” he said on Soccer Special.

“Salah is one on one with the goalkeeper, but Meret produces a brilliant save.

“It wouldn’t have counted anyway.”

Jones eventually came off in the 72nd minute, not long after he had set a chance up for Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool left it late to get on the scoresheet, ultimately running out 2-0 winners over the Italians.

And Darwin Nunez, who replaced Jones, contributed to both goals.
