‘I will be ready’: Arsenal and Liverpool target says he’ll be leaving next summer

Speaking to NOS, Cody Gakpo has been discussing his future amid plenty of transfer speculation.

The Dutch winger has been linked with almost every club in Europe at this point with Arsenal and Liverpool amongst the two Premier League clubs keen on his signature.

The winger opted to stay at PSV in the summer, and while there is plenty of speculation about a January move at the moment, Gakpo says that he’ll be ready to take the next step in his career at the end of the season – all-but confirming that he’ll be on the move in the summer.

“I think at the end of this season I will be ready to take that step. I feel like I was already that way at the beginning of this season, but after this season I’m even more ready to take the next one,” Gakpo said.

Where will he go?

Gakpo has outgrown the Eredivisie, there’s no doubt about that, but the question is, where will he go next?

The winger is showing signs of being a truly elite level talent, and he’s been eyed up by the likes of Real Madrid.

However, as plenty of Eredivisie players have shown in the past, making the step into one of Europe’s top five leagues from the Netherlands can be a big leap.

We may well learn more about Gakpo’s current ability in the coming weeks as he prepares to play a key role for the Netherlands at the World Cup, and a standout showing in Qatar may well earn Gakpo a move to one of the world’s biggest clubs.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming months.
