‘If Kevin De Bruyne does that’: BBC pundit stunned by one Liverpool midfielder
Pat Nevin has raved about Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott on BBC Sport and has compared him to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne while watching him in action against Southampton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Elliott was in action for Liverpool in their pretty comfortable win against Southampton at home in the league this afternoon.
The former Fulham youngster started on the right of a midfield-three.
The 19-year-old midfielder was taken off midway through the second half.
It was a very good performance from Elliott.
The teenager provided the assist for Darwin Nunez’s goal in the 21st minute.
It was a brilliant assist from Elliott that showed his vision and passing range.
And former Chelsea star and BBC Sport pundit Nevin was impressed, comparing him to Manchester City and Belgium international midfielder De Bruyne.
Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott compared to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne
Nevin said: “Fantastic for Nunez, getting into the right position and not panicking when it came to him. Let’s be fair, it’s about the ball into him. Elliott gets his head up, he’s only got about half a yard to look at it.
“That’s De Bruyne-esque. If Kevin De Bruyne does that, you think wow, how many players can do that at that level? Elliott has definitely got that.
“Beautiful ball, he’s not had a great involvement in the game so far but when it came to him there, he knew exactly what he was doing. It had to be inch perfect and boy was it. Beautiful ball in. Nunez knows he’s got it in him, so he makes the move knowing that he can do that.”
In our view, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is a big talent who has established himself as an important player in manager Jurgen Klopp’s team.
And he is only 19.
Elliott is a winger by trade, but the English youngster is playing as a midfielder for Liverpool at the moment.
That shows how good he is.
We think that Elliott is one of the best teenage footballers out there.
And he will improve and get even better in the coming years.
